Sheets & Giggles™ Teams With Designed By Us™ To Provide PPE In The Fight Against COVID-19
Partnership Aims to Create and Distribute Sheet Masks to Communities Nationwide

New York, NY , June 10,2020 — As the United States continues its fight against COVID-19, Sheets & Giggles™ today announced a partnership with Designed By Us™ with the charter of distributing protective cloth, hypoallergenic face masks around the country made from Sheets & Giggles sustainable, eucalyptus lyocell sheets.
With over 1.5 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States, the demand for more protective masks for communities, essential workers, and frontline and healthcare workers remains high. In response, Sheets & Giggles is providing its hypoallergenic, breathable, self-cooling sheets to Designed By Us so the company can use the material to make masks. The sheets are naturally softer than cotton, use up to 96 percent less water than most cotton sheets and save up to five years’ worth of the average person’s drinking water.

There’s still so much demand for PPE, and we’re honored to be able to provide the materials so more masks can be made, distributed, and donated.”
Each sheet set donated from Sheets & Giggles has approximately 70 square feet of fabric and 200 inches of elastic, providing thousands of DIY cloth masks for people who need raw materials. So far, Sheets & Giggles has donated 32 queen sheet sets.

Designed By Us is a nonprofit organization on a mission to make the world work for 100 percent of humanity by investing in under-represented voices in science, technology, engineering, arts, math and design (S.T.E.A.M.D.). Its Design Corps of changemakers promotes diversity and inclusion amongst the LatinX, Black, LGBTQ+, Indigenous, Filipino, Indian, Asian, women, disabled, aging, and veteran populations.
In March, Designed By Us launched the 100 Million Mask Mayday studio program using the specified materials and assembly standards designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The Designed By Us Design Corps has led the creation of a friction-free ecosystem of PPE makers and created a global distribution network for non-for-profit organizations in under-invested-in communities in dire need of PPE. Additionally, the Design Corps has developed automated mechanisms for local supply chains and quality control that give us an opportunity to supply masks at scale for field and hospital systems, nursing homes, agriculture and food manufacturing plants, grocery stores, delivery services, and shelters. Since taking part in the 100 Million Mask Mayday project, Designed By Us has sewn 2,309 hypoallergenic face masks, 3D printed 3,531 masks, and has created 255 face shields — delivering over 6,095 masks and shields nationwide.
